Project Liberty Ship
S.S. John Brown
WWII Liberty Ship
During the early years of World War II allied merchant ships were being sunk faster than they could be replaced. Under the leadership of President Franklin Roosevelt, an emergency ship building program of 2710 Liberty Ships in 18 shipyards were built around the United States. The S.S. John W. Brown is one of the last survivors from this great fleet. Built and currently berthed in Baltimore, MD, the ship is now a fully operational museum ship and a memorial to shipyard workers, Merchant Marines and US Navy crews that built, sailed and defended Liberty Ships during World War II. The John W Brown was fully restored and is maintained as close as possible to her World War II configuration.
